Asian Sweet Heat Chicken Wings (Alpha-Gal Friendly and Dairy Free)
Are you completely overwhelmed with the sauce section at the grocery store? I know I am. My mind would just circulate over and over on the same questions. – Is it safe for me?? -Why do sauces have so many ingredients?? -Will my family even like this expensive sauce??
Once again, I decided to just make my own version and honestly, my whole family likes it better! I hope you give it a try, please let me know what you think!
Asian Sweet Heat Chicken Wings (Alpha-Gal Friendly and Dairy Free)

minutesWith the growing trend of beef tallow used for frying in restaurants, the reality is- safe chicken wings (for the most part) means making them at home! In addition to that, I honestly was so tired of looking for a safe sauce at the store with so many ingredients. This is simple, but gives just the right sweet heat to make this your new favorite!
Ingredients
Chicken Wings:
2lbs chicken wings (flats and drummettes)
2TBSP avocado oil (or olive oil)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Sauce:
This can easily be doubled or tripled if you want them extra sticky.1/4 cup coconut aminos (this is used instead of soy sauce. At time of writing this recipe, ‘Bragg’s Coconut Aminos’ was listed as green/safe on the FIG app for alpha-gal)
2TBSP maple syrup or honey
1 TBSP rice vinegar
1 TBSP avocado or olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced or 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional, but you really want this, trust me)
Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, to tolerance)
Garnish options: chopped green onion, sesame seeds
Directions
- Prep wings- Pat chicken wings dry. Toss with oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Bake/Air Fry
Oven: Preheat to 425ºF. Place wings on wire rack over a sheet pan. Bake 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway.
Air Fryer: 400ºF for 18-20 minutes, shaking halfway. - Make sauce: While wings cook, whisk sauce ingredients together in a sauce pan. Simmer 3-5 min until just slightly thickened. Please make sure you carefully taste your sauce and adjust, its going to be temperature hot. If it needs more ‘zing,’ add a touch more vinegar. If it needs more sweet, go for it. If you like yours more spicy, the sky is the limit!
- Toss & Serve: Once wings are cooked to internal temp of 165ºF and crispy, toss in the sauce or brush it over. This is optional but I always like to add the chicken wings back into the oven/air fryer for a couple of minutes so they caramelize, but your choice! Garnish with green onion or sesame seeds if tolerated.
