3 TBS AG Safe plant butter( At time of writing this recipe, ‘Country Crock Plant Butter-olive oil’ was listed green/safe on the Fig app for alpha-gal. )
3 TBS all-purpose unbleached, AG-safe flour (At time of writing this recipe, ‘Jovial Organic Einkorn All-Purpose Flour’ was listed green/safe on the Fig app for alpha-gal.)
2 cups AG Safe vegetable broth or chicken broth (At time of writing this recipe, ‘ Kettle& Fire Chicken Broth’ was listed as green/safe on the Fig app for alpha-gal.)
1 TBS of coconut aminos or vegan soy sauce (At time of writing this recipe, ‘asian pantry low sodium soy sauce’ was listed as green/safe on the Fig app for alpha-gal.)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Optional: 1/4 tsp of a savory herb such as dried thyme or sage for an extra depth of flavor
Directions
- Melt butter in a medium sauce pan placed on medium heat.
- Add Flour and stir for 1 min constantly to cook the flour and darken the roux.
- Slowly whisk in broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Add coconut aminos /soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and optional(but not at my house) herbs.
- This will seem very thin at first, but as it comes back up to a boil, it will thicken to a gravy consistency(about 5-7 minutes). Stir often until thickened.
- Do not add any more salt until you taste FIRST!
- We love to add plenty of freshly ground cracked pepper at my house.

I love this unbleached, ancient grain all purpose flour! – I know flour can be a hot topic online, especially when navigating alpha-gal. This specific flour is marked green/safe on the Fig app at the time of writing, and I’ve personally used it with success. That said – always do your own research, and when in doubt, don’t risk it. Everyone’s body reacts differently with AGS.
This is the chicken broth listed above.
